Academic and Language Education Cooperation Between Our University and Yarmouk University

İstanbul 29 Mayıs University and Yarmouk University in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing academic and scientific collaboration, promoting the exchange of knowledge and experience, and undertaking joint initiatives in the field of language education.

Building on the strong academic and cultural ties between Türkiye and Jordan, the agreement seeks to strengthen interaction between the students and academic staff of the two universities, contribute to the quality of education and scientific research, and establish long-term institutional cooperation.

Under the agreement, Arabic language programs for students of our University and Turkish language programs for students of Yarmouk University are planned to be developed. The two universities will also organize joint academic events and share their academic and administrative experience, language teaching methodologies, and examples of best practices.

Language education, proficiency examinations, and accreditation constitute some of the key areas of cooperation. The strong assessment and evaluation infrastructure developed by our University through ARÖMER in the fields of Arabic language education and proficiency examinations, together with TÜRÖMER’s experience in teaching Turkish, will be brought together with Yarmouk University’s academic expertise through joint initiatives. In this context, the parties aim to develop a system for the mutual recognition of language proficiency certificates in accordance with their respective applicable regulations and to advance efforts toward international accreditation.

Through language exchange programs to be established between students, Yarmouk University students are expected to have opportunities to practice Turkish with native Turkish speakers, while students of our University will have opportunities to practice Arabic with native Arabic speakers. Opportunities will also be explored for organizing summer programs in Istanbul for Yarmouk University students and academic staff, as well as in Jordan for students studying Arabic at our University.

The agreement was developed and finalized through discussions between the President of Yarmouk University, Prof. Dr. Malek Ahmed Alsharairi, and Dr. İbrahim Helalşah, Director of the School of Foreign Languages, the Arabic Language Teaching Application and Research Center (ARÖMER), and the Turkish Language Teaching Application and Research Center (TÜRÖMER) at our University. Throughout this process, the academic priorities of both universities and the areas of activity of the School of Foreign Languages, ARÖMER, and TÜRÖMER were brought together within a common framework for cooperation.

Dr. İbrahim Helalşah stated that cooperation with an institution of Yarmouk University’s strong academic standing would further advance, at the international level, the successful work carried out by our University in the fields of Arabic and Turkish language education. Emphasizing that the agreement would create new opportunities for students, researchers, and academic staff, Helalşah noted that joint programs and academic activities would further strengthen relations between the two universities.

The agreement is expected to mark the beginning of sustainable and productive cooperation that will lead to joint educational programs, academic and scientific initiatives, and increased student mobility.
